Our search for the BEST local trail

My family is on a mission to find THE BEST hiking trail within about an hour's drive of Mobile, Alabama. Why? Because we love the outdoors and want to prove that you don't have to venture as far as a national park to find beautiful places. We have them right here in our backyard. And with the COVID-19 pandemic, there is nowhere we would rather be than outside, where we can breathe fresh air and keep a social distance from everyone else.

How are we doing this? Primarily, we are using the AllTrails app to find trails we did not even know existed. I have been posting pictures on Facebook, and many of my friends didn't know these places existed either. We are also going by word of mouth and reading some books about hiking in Alabama.

We are not doing this in a scientific manner. We are exploring these trails as a family (and with our dog as much as possible) and writing reviews. We would not consider ourselves to be athletic, so we are not looking for lengthy, strenuous trails that involve camping overnight. In other words, we are looking for easy to moderate hikes you can drive to, hike, drive home, and feel like you've done something fun but not overly exhausting.

We are researching and writing our reviews now. Eventually, we'll pick our favorites and rank them.

Feel free to comment on our reviews and to recommend trails that we should try.
